iMum or iPad Mum as we call her!Excitement and delight from everyone! From early forties to one year old, all five of us are enjoying the Apple iPad and the Apps from the iTunes Store. Mum Reviews the iPad - Day 2: Huge Thumbs Up!

"My husband suggested the iPad, I had no idea what it was and what to expect from it. I felt that if it was something he was so passionate about then it must be good and that it would probably make a difference to our life. After only a few hours I can say it has exceeded any expectation I had! All five of us are enjoying it, learning and exploring.

We haven’t really left "iPad land". Before yesterday I had never even heard of the word App, as I am not at all familiar with the iPhone, but now I see that there are Apps to suit all ages andwhen you know which ones work best for each age group then it REALLY works.

For example our 3 year old is just as challenged by CAT as Dad is with 'Jelly Car'! Our 6 year old is as challenged and stimulated by 'Azkend' as I am with 'Harbor Master', which I think is GREAT. We all share our experiences and wins! Already I am confident that the iPad alters the environment, allowing the children to LEARN in an easy and fun way!

Our 18 month old is really enjoying 'Sound Shaker'
and immediately began to touch the screen and to make circles. It didn't take long for her to work out that if she holds her finger down the delightfully coloured sound circle gets bigger until eventually after about 7 expansions, hatches into a pink chick which then starts walking off the screen, it's wild!

The hard part for the rest of us is just being an observer...everyone wants to touch the iPad...

To solve the issue of “I want it, I want it” we have been taking turns. We have a place in the 'reading room' where we each choose our favourite game(s) or activity (vetted of course) and can 'discover' undisturbed for 10-15 minutes. Because the iPad is SO easy to use each of us feels empowered to choose what we want knowing we will be able to do it!

We have also been communally playing. The boys and I are having fun with 'Colour & Draw', where we choose a blank canvas and each of us in turn adds to our drawing. It has been a great tool for patience and for letting go of how the drawing may end up!

Our 6 year old has taken to playing Azkend. He loves the talisman symbols and the high quality and stimulating graphics really hold his attention. He has played three in a row games already and the fact that you can select more than three in a row gives him so much more flexibility, which he is enjoying and excelling with. He finds that he loves progressing up through the levels and seeing his progress appear on the main map.

Our little son, almost 4, loves 'Cookie Doodle', he says “you can select dough and then you pick a cookie shape, you bake it, put icing, sprinkles and candies on it, and then you can eat it!”. He loves it because he can make things happen instantly which is a magical experience!

By lunchtime of day two with the iPad I am patiently awaiting my turn, and I find myself thinking...”where is everyone?”, as my usually expressive family is super quiet...hmmmh...I wonder where they are? My hunch proves right... I find them all on the bed gathered around the iPad checking out all the Apps we haven’t yet seen. Cute!

After two full days of explorative play we continue to use our iPad as a great tool for learning and entertainment. It will be an invaluable resource for our home school! A huge thumbs up, I wish everyone could have one!"
