Our three children aged 8, 5 and 3, as well as us, the parents, are enjoying the process of reviewing Apps for the totally amazing iPad! There are now over 500,000 apps available on the iTunes store. Best Children's TV Shows for 2011-2012

"The Octonauts"
2011 Children's TV Show of the Year

This has got to be the best children's TV show we've ever seen. It's adventureous, without being aggressive, it's educational, while also stimulating, and the 3d style graphics are exceptional. I wish it had been around in the 70's when I was a kid!

Our kids (age 8, 5 & 3) all find the Octonauts totally engaging. As I mentioned earlier it's a non-agressive type of show (making it ok for our 3 year old) and the characters are all peaceable but adventurous creatures helping other friendly and exotic sea creatures.

Definitely worth downloading Octonauts, Series 1, Vol. 1 - Octonauts from the iTunes Store. If you're going to get them something to watch - this is the show!

Social Apps of the Year 2011
These are the apps that we use regularly when it comes to social interaction via our mobile device. The Facebook App is a great way to view your Facebook feed when using your iPad, and the Twitter App is almost as useful as Twitteriffic which we use more often. The main reason is the multi-account function on Twitteriffic is easy and very, very useful. Flipbook is cool and we use it every now and then - we find it's a really nice way of seeing your social feeds all in one place. The Reminders and Messages Apps in iOS5 are a nice addition to the iPad's operating system but we are still waiting on other family members to embrace the new technology. The Skype App is great and would be even better with the iPad2's camera facility. These are the iPad Social Apps that we found most useful this past year.

Education and Artistic Expression on the iPad...

Drawing and visualising are two common uses for the iPad in our family.

After discussing the planet (during a home-schooling lesson), and the strange truth that no matter where you are on our spherical planet you are always facing up!

Which means everyone is pointing a different way out into space because of the way gravity works...

A few minutes later this arrived in my inbox, created during my 7 year old's "creative time" on the iPad. A great expression of gravity! I am delighted that the lesson about the planet and gravity 'went in' and was learned, and I am delighted at his creative visualisation of it on the iPad! What a neat picture, eh?

Adobe Ideas is the most regularly used drawing App in our family. I (dad) use it regularly for visualising projects, landscapes, coordinating ideas and graphic note taking. Top Drawing App Adobe!
