Features of tChess Pro:
This is a great iPad App for playing Chess. The touch-ability of the iPad and the App's amazing 3D graphics make our chess-playing experience almost equal playing on a real board... except the bonus of being able to move the board around and the pieces don't fall off!
You have the ability to change the view (landscape or portrait), the pieces (different colours) and the board (different materials). You can touch the screen and move the board in 3-D twisting it from side to side and up and down really easily.
The interactivity of the touch-screen makes it a great chess experience. There is an option (which I like to leave on) where you select a piece to move and you are shown the options of where that piece CAN move to. There is a 'hint' mode which is so great for young learners, a chance to see how the 'master' may do it.
Educational value - undeniable!
"This is a great chess game for beginners, as part of the learning process is seeing the moves you can make with each piece. This feature makes learning basic moves easier. The app can be a bit daunting to play against as the iPad is really very clever even on the easy mode. It's not an easy win... which makes you better each time you play. I've been playing for over a year, and can now win almost every time." ~ iPad Lad (2009)
10 out of 10!
I (Mum) found that playing together with my son against the iPad until we won was a great confidence builder and a catalyst to his wanting to play his own game.
Our 5 year old has already started playing chess and uses this app so it could be for children under the age of 6.
