Review: Phoenix HD
Great space shooting arcade game that's fast action, high definition and a lot of furious fun for older kids (and adults!)
View on the App Store: Phoenix HD - A Modern Arcade Shmup - Firi Games
Features of Phoenix HD:
I went into this game with a lot of expectation, as the original Phoenix from my teenage days was my absolute favourite game, although it's not the same I was still impressed and love playing it!
You have your own spaceship, which is free, and you can pay to upgrade your ship (so make sure your child's IN-APP purchases are switched OFF in the settings menu if you don't want them to buy extra ships.)
There is a range of colourful and creative enemy ships coming towards you firing all different types of bullets, lasers and other weapons. Your job is to dodge their bullets whilst firing your own. The graphics are excellent and allows you to see lots of bullets and lasers on the screen at one time. This gets harder and harder as the game progresses.
Each game is different, so you are challenged every time anew. You can move your ship all around the screen in this fast action game with no let up until your life goes. Collect power ups along the way such as weapon upgrade, health, and alpha strike and gather coins as your rewards in-game.
You can spend your coins in a variety of ways before your next game such as purchasing drones, extra lives, double coins and jumping forward by 20 waves. You can see your life in the form of a green stripe at the top of the screen, when it gets all the way to the left then your game is over.
Once played you can find out how you scored. By allowing the app to locate you, you can see how your score compares to other players in your exact town, in the nearest big city, your country, your continent and the world...this is quite fun!
You have the the option of turning the sound and the music on or off.
10 out of 10!
Fabulous graphics that are bright and colourful and engage the player.
I said to my nine year old son "This looks like it's too easy..." He assured me it gets harder, and he was right! I scored 150,000 and he scored 1,500,000! (I think I spend too much time cooking dinner and cleaning up and not enough time playing games on my iPad!!!!)
