Review: FirstWords: Animals

This is a fun way to learn both letters for younger children, and words for older ones!

View on the App Store: First Words Animals - Learning Touch

Features of FirstWords: Animals:

  • One of our FAVOURITE Apps for learning to recognise letters, perfect addition to homeschool
  • Quality graphics make LOOKING at this App a pleasant experience.
  • Tile manipulation enhances fine motor skills for the very young
  • Builds young ones vocabulary with visual representations of the word
  • Phonics: Word-Sound recognition makes this App GREAT value - Fun AND Educational

One of our favourite literacy Apps on iPad, the quality graphics and friendly interface makes this a must-have App for young children.  It also has a wonderful selection of animals to learn.

Beneath each animal lies the lettered tiles it takes to SPELL each word.  You need to tap and hold the letter and drag them into the correct order.  There is a transparent representation of each animal (optional) which assists younger learners.

Interestingly, kids can 'fling' or 'flick' the letters into the right place.  JUST THIS LITTLE TOUCH makes it a cool Educational app for Children (hey, it's neat to play with as an adult too!)

Once you have placed all the letters in the right order you are rewarded by the verbal repetition of each letter and a confirmation of which animal it is.

The picture of the animal spins, makes the relevant animal sound and appears nice, big, bold and colourful on the screen.  This is tastefully done, and feels like a 'reward'!  This kids app is fun and informative.

Our children, from as young as 2 have this as an essential part of their language development tutorials at home school.

10 out of 10!

Age Group:

We recommend this great Children's Educational App for little ones ages 2 - 10. It is a great introduction to letters, and phonetics, yet helps older children with repetition-based reading skills. It's always good to practice... spelling is tricky sometimes!
